The history of ALS Tribology in North America begins in 1961 with the Cleveland Technical Center in the research department of the New York Central Railroad. The non-rail company, the Cleveland Technical Center, remained a separate company until it was purchased by Staveley Services, PLC, in London.
In 1997, The Cleveland Technical Center became CTC Analytical Services. In 2002, the company adopted the name Staveley and evolved into the Staveley services fluid analysis.
In 2008 the Staveley Fluid Analysis division was acquired by the ALS Group and became ALS Tribology North America.
