What is the importance of water analysis in industries?

Water is essential for mankind, but even so, only 1% is available for human consumption. We know the importance it represents for our homes, being treated and proper to consume. But what about industries? What is its usefulness in industrial processes? What is the importance of water analysis in industries?

Water for industry is used in a number of processes, both for manufacturing the products themselves and for cleaning materials and instruments. How is the use of water in industries?

Most industrial processes use water. It is often essential for the manufacture of an item to use water to dissolve a chemical, extract substances from others and to wash products and equipment. In papermaking, for example, water is used for the bleaching of the cellulose. Also in the textile industry, water is important for washing and dyeing fabrics, and certainly, it is essential for cooling the mills, requiring a large and continuous amount of water for this process.

When it comes to the food industry, you need to offer even greater security. Factories must have strict quality control. Lack of this care can have serious consequences for people’s health. In this way, companies must apply preventive measures to avoid any problems in the manufacture of food, such as carrying out a rigid evaluation of the production processes, with water quality being one of the essential.

What should be the acceptable water standard in industries?

According to the Ministry of Health, water for human use needs to be potable and not pose health risks. In this way, the following standards were formulated:

  • Microbiological pattern: regarding the amount of fecal coliform;
  • Harmful chemical composition: concentration of lead, mercury, nitrates, benzene, agrochemicals, etc .;
  • With respect to radioactivity: if it has high rates of radio-226 or 228;
  • Organoleptic standards: referring to color, smell, taste and others.

These items are identified by a tolerance table of their quantity in the water and the data are used as the basis for laboratory analysis.

How can industries have good quality water available?

For this, some important steps are needed, such as the following:

Know the origin of water

Industries can use water from public systems or use their own. The first one is already treated and drinkable. In the second case, the companies are responsible for the treatment, and consequently they must follow a strict standard, but the advantages are that they have a better control over the origin of the water.

Have your own treatment system

Even coming from the public water system, water must be taken care of, either in its storage or in its treatment, so that it presents a standard of good quality. In this way, it is important that each industry has its own water treatment system.

Monitor water quality

Control of water treatment in industries is essential. Periodic monitoring is required, with microbiological and chemical analyzes to ensure safe use and consumption of water.

As we have seen, water quality is essential for industries, especially for those who make food. And the best way to avoid contamination of this resource is through the awareness of companies that they need to have their own water control, analysis and treatment system used in their processes.
